Blog Post Today

On theorizing how my present life would be different based if I made a different decision in that one past moment where I decided which high school to attend, and ultimately accepting that it’s just another wasteful form of dreaming.

(Includes A Dance With Dragons references… spoilers obviously.)

sciencesoup:

All life as we know it is carbon-based: carbon is an ideal element for building complex organic molecules, because it has the ability to form long chains of interconnecting covalent bonds.
There’s no concrete reason why carbon should be the only basis of life, though, so scientists haven’t ruled out other options. There’s actually a term called “carbon chauvinism”, coined by Carl Sagan, which refers to the assumption that we should only look for carbon-based extraterrestrial life—we just don’t know enough about the universe to assume something as limiting as that.
Some have proposed that life forms could be made instead of silicon, nitrogen, phosphorus, boron…but we’ve never come across any empirical evidence, so for now carbon remains the basis all known biological life.

This is good common science to know.
And yeah, silicon is probably the most theorized since it neighbors carbon.
Carbon is a slut.

Songs of World War 2... because why not it will sound awesome to hear classic songs like Because I'm hoping it's as badass as that record played in Moonrise Kingdom... Dancing education! Wunderbar! I picked it up hoping it was about 1968... and it is :) To learn more French! So I wanted to get an album from their Um, T.S. Elliot's voice on record? And Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock sold it

So let’s take a look at this collection of records I purchased at the thrift store “What Cheer” in Providence, Rhode Island, which is just a few blocks from Brown’s campus. (captions for each photo [click on them])

I wanted to send a couple to a few specific people, one of which follows me here (hi), while I was in Providence, RI and Boston, MA (my Boston post didn’t upload, awesome)… They’re quite nice and require choice words, they become more timely and specific than letters, so that’s why I’m intrigued.

What excites me right now
